Interview with our new player, Mike McCall

We officially announced on November 15 that Mike McCall would continue his career in the HOYA-Pannon Egyetem Veszprém. We had a great conversation the American playmaker.

- Welcome to Veszprém, Mike! You are now the player of HOYA-Pannon Egyetem Veszprém. What are your plans as the member of our team?
- I just come to help the team in the best way I can, to help to compete in the championship and be the best team we can be.

- What did you like the most in the offer of Veszprém?
- It seemed like a pretty good club and a pretty good team. I think the coach makes here a pretty good team. This is my first time to play in Hungary so I am excited about that.

- Please talk a little bit about your game. How can you describe yourself as a player?
- I am a very quick guard. I can shoot and I can pass. I just can make plays for myself and the others. I like to play up-tempo basketball.

- And how can you describe yourself out of the court?
- I'm a pretty much lay-back guy. It is easy to get along with me. I like to have fun and enjoy myself. On my free time I like to play the Xbox sometimes.

- You were born and raised in Chicago. You were born in 1991, in the year the Bulls won their first NBA championship title. How was it growing up in one off the biggest powerhouse of the basketball world?
- Amazing. Chicago is like a Mecca of basketball. It is pretty much known for basketball. There is a lot of talent in the city of Chicago. Just to be from here is an amazing feeling.

- Have you anybody in your family who also play basketball?
- My father and uncles played but never on professional level. They just played in high school and college.

- Who was your childhood idol?
- I say my mom as my inspiring idol. Because she is so hardworking, never gave up and she is always there for the family.  In basketball, everybody loves Michael Jordan, he is a Chicago hometown hero. Dwyane Wade is another person who I look up to. He is from Chicago and he is a great player as well.

- And how do you remember on your years in St. Louis University?
- Four great years there: won a lot of games, won championships, played in NCAA tournaments three out of my four years and had great teammates. These were good times, I won a lot and I learned a lot. Coach Rick Majerus made me all around a better player and man, of course.

- And now you will continue your career in Hungary What do you know about this country?
- I have just arrived now so I don’t know pretty too much but I know that the food is delicious and it is a good basketball country. But I am going to find out a lot of stuff, though.

- Will your family come with you to Hungary?
My plan was to bring them here later on this season. I came by myself so far.

- What is your creed?
- I just want to be the best basketball player I can be. This is always what I want to do. My plan is still to play in the highest level I can play. I just keep working hard every day and trying to get to that level.

- Closing the interview, what is your message to the Veszprém fans?
- You will really enjoy me. I am a really fun guy to watch. I am a really nice guy and a great teammate. I am very excited to be here and I can’t wait to meet you, guys and show you my game, as well.
